Local Letterpress Printer, Bookbinder and Restorers AMR Logan Press contacted me directly to both design and develop a website to enable them to provide new customers with a more detailed overview of their services. Additionally to provide the ability to list and promote those items they have for sale.
The website has been a roaring success generating significant new business enquiries and in addition opening up their extensive catalogue of printmaking supplies and more importantly their extensive respiration projects to a considerably wider audience.
Many wonderful hours were spent working directly with the business owner Patrick discussing the nuances of typography so we could endeavour to match, as best we could, the classical typefaces of yesteryear with those available to us now. We obsessed over the typography in terms of research and Patrick’s own unique knowledge to settle on a set of faces which define the medium of letterpress printing.
The use of ornaments with the design, flourishes, crowns, and scrolls to further ground the design with a style befitting the product.
Patrick is constantly updating the website with new products, restorations and items for sale and this has lead to a much faster turnover of the larger items and has also led to numerous restoration projects which may well have never happened!
All in all this was a lovely project to work on, both from a personal standpoint in the design design process but also to work directly with someone who’s knowledge of typography entirely outweighs my own and to learn so much about the printing processes of old.
